Selection body members to meet govt leaders this week

Dec 19, 2015 - 19:48

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Members of the newly-established selection committee tasked with nominating commissioners on the two electoral bodies would meet leaders of the unity government and would appoint their administrative board this week.

A member of the committee, Naeem Ayubzada, told Pajhwok Afghan News they held their second meeting on Saturday and discussed regal standards and procedure for the selection of members of the two commissions.

They would meet President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah and would elect head, deputy head and secretary of the committee at an open gathering during the ongoing week, he said.

The selection body has been formed as recommended by the Electoral Reform Commission (ERC).

The ERC was formed on July 21 in compliance with a presidential decree. The commission has submitted its suggestions in ten articles to the government after a month-long hard work gathering public views from various provinces.

President Ghani has decreed seven suggestions of the ERC and called for urgent measures to provide legal cover for the proposals approved.

Three members, including a woman, from civil societyinfo-icon organizations, a representative from the High Council of Supreme Court, a representative from the Afghanistaninfo-icon Independent Human Rights Commission, a member from the National Constitution Oversight Commission and another member from the Administrative Reform and Civil Services Commission are members of the selection committee.
