JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Six projects worth more than one billion Afghanis have been initiated and another reconstructioninfo-icon scheme executed in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the six projects would benefit policewomen. Separately, he said, a road was inaugurated after its construction in a rural area.

Khogyani added the projects were initiated at the police headquarters, as well as traffic and healthinfo-icon departments in Surkhrod and Behsud districts. The UNDP-funded uplift programmes would cost$22 million.

Policewomen would get laundry, dressing rooms and other facilities with the execution of the programmes in three months time. UNDP officials insist on providing facilities to policewomen, calling their jobs important.

Separately, the construction of a 4.5 kilometers road was inaugurated in Khewa district. The project accounting for $15,000, provided by the Ministry of Public Works, was completed in two months.

The road has a width of nine meters, according to a government statement, which said more than 1500 families would benefit from the project.

Ahmad Shah Sadat, a provincial government official, said the projects would boost public confidence in the government. He stressed the need for cooperation between the people and the government on such projects.

Habib Gul, a resident of the area, expressed happiness with the construction of the road and asked provincial officials to launch more projects in the district.
