MAIMANA/SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Three people were killed and 10 others sustained wounds in a traffic accident in northwestern Faryab province on Monday.

The early morning accident occurred when two vehicles collided on the Qarmaqol-Dawlatabad highway in Aaq Guzar locality of Qarmaqol district, Nek Mohammad Hafizi, the district chief, said.

Faryab traffic police chief Col. Abdul Hakim Bakhtyar said two people were killed and 10 others were wounded, including womeninfo-icon and children, in the collision.

One of the drivers’ relative said: “The female driver was pregnant and wanted to reach hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif city for delivery. The baby was lost and the driver (mother) and her two children were wounded in the accident.”

Separately, police on Monday claimed foiling a plot to kill an anti-Talibaninfo-icon militia leader in northern Jawzjan province.

Jawzjan police chief Brig. Gen. Rahmatullah Turkistani said a colleague of commander Noorgildi wanted to kill him through a remotely controlled bomb, but he was arrested on the spot in Mordayan district.

Mordayan police chief Major Imaminfo-icon Ali Faizi said the arrested man, Abdul Ghafor, had previously served in the national army.

He came to Mordayan district last year to meet his family before returning to his unit, Faizi added.

The detainee has links with Mullahinfo-icon Jabbar, a Taliban leader, and has confessed to plotting assassination of Noorgildi in return for 10,000 afghanis.
