Disabled Afghan swimmer wins 2 gold medals in US

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A teenage disabled Afghan swimmer has won two gold medals at the US Indianapolis Para Swimming Worldinfo-icon Series, a media report said on Monday.

The 18-year-old, Abbas Karimi, has become the first Afghan to qualify for the 2017 World Para Swimming Championships to be held later this year in Mexico.

Karimi, who was born without arms, is all set to contest the Mexico championships after winning two gold medals in the 50 meter freestyle and in the 50m butterfly contests.

Karimi, who became a national team member five years ago, has been training in the US for the past six months. He has in the past taken gold at a disabled swimming championship in Turkey in 2013.
