Hope guides WI to win over Afghanistan in 2nd ODI

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The West Indies (WI) survived some jitters before defeating Afghanistaninfo-icon in the second One-Day International (ODI) by four wickets and leveling the series 1-1.

Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat. No Afghan batsman shined in the second ODI except all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, who scored 51 vital runs, which helped his side set the hosts a136-run target.

The islanders hit back through their fast bowlers, who exposed Afghanistan's frailties against the short balls as they slid to 135 all out. Gulbadin Naib scored 51, Mohammad Nabi 13, and the captain 11.

Rashid struck in his first over, getting Powell to nick a googly to the slip, and went around the wicket in his third over to trap Lewis leg before wicket,

This was high-quality bowling, and the West Indian batsmen, unsure of which way the ball would turn, were stabbing nervously at him with leaden feet.

Despite some aggressive bowling from Afghans, Lewis scored 33, Hope 48 and Powell 12 to chase down the target and win the match by four wickets, with 64 balls remaining.

Rashid Khan bowled well and took 3/18, Gulbadin grabbed two and Nabi one wicket.
