KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Lawmaker Haji Hazrat Ali on Thursday warned Daesh or so-called Islamic State (IS) in the eastern Nangarhar province may threaten the security of capital Kabul and other neighboring provinces if action against the rebel group was not taken on time.

Hazrat Ali, representing Nangarhar province in Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon, expressed these views during his exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News today.

He said that all parliament members from eastern provinces of the country discussed the issue with government authorities on Wednesday night.

The eastern zone lawmakers shared their deep concerns about new violence created by Daesh militants during their meeting with the CEO Abdullah Abdullah and the National Security Advisor Hanif Atmar, he said.

The meeting decided that a joint step should be taken for defeating Daesh, Talibaninfo-icon, and other insurgent groups in eastern parts of the country, Ali added.

“As representatives from eastern provinces, I, Haji Zahir Qadeer, Mirwais Yasini and our other colleagues are willing to support government and crush Daesh, Taliban and other insurgent groups,” He said.

If Daesh not beaten on time, the militant group may sneak into Logar through Khogyani, Hisarak, Shirzad of Nangarhar and Azra district of Logar and then pose a great threat to Kabul, he said.

He said the IS militants recently appointed their shadow governors and started their activities in Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

“Strong military operations should be conducted in Nuristan and Kunar provinces; otherwise they will fall to IS.” The lawmaker warned.

Hazrat Ali put the number of Daesh militants including Chechens, Pakistani, Irani and Indian nationals in eastern provinces at 6,000 fighters.

He also blasted government and foreign forces for letting the Tora Borainfo-icon strategic area to fell into Daesh hands without showing any resistance.

Meanwhile, a security official who wished to go unnamed told Pajhwok that Daesh militant group captured the Tora Bora strategic area of Pachirawgam district on Wednesday.

Hazrat Ali stressed the government should prepare a programme in coordination with the foreign forces for beating anti-government militants. “If government launched such programme, 80 percent of people will support it.”

He called upon the government to be attentive to people’s demands as the nation was suffering from many problems and disappointments.

Ali also asked the people not to create hurdles for the government and said finding an alternative for the incumbent government was difficult at the current time.

On the other hand, officials say Afghan security forces have launched fresh operation against Daesh militants in Pachiragam and Chaparhar districts of Nangarhar.

Attaullah Khogyani, the Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, also said Chaparhar had been cleared of Daesh and Afghan forces had reached Pachiragam to flush out the rebels. He did not provide more details but said the operation was decisive.

The 201st Selab Military Corps commander in the east, Mohammad Zaman Waziri, who visited the Chaprahar district along with some other security officials, said the district was cleared of Daesh and the Afghan forces were dispatched to Pachiragam now.
