EU to revise roadmap for engagement with CSOs

EU to revise roadmap for engagement with CSOs

Jun 18, 2017 - 15:31

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The European Union said on Sunday civil societyinfo-icon organisations (CSOs) have been its essential partners since 2002 in the implementation of assistance in areas of healthinfo-icon, social protection, agricultureinfo-icon and support to refugees.

After the publication of the EU Country Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society 2015-2017, the EU has focused on promoting and strengthening a broad-based and inclusive civil society in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

In a statement, the EU said it wanted to see an Afghan civil society willing to engage with communities and government authorities at all levels to promoting dialogue as well as accountability and transparency of state entities.

The development of new funding mechanisms, such as a recently established sub-granting scheme, has allowed the EU to provide support to a wider base of CSOs at grassroots level.

A standalone event between civil society and donors was one of the highlights of the Brussels Conference on Afghanistan (BCA) and provided an excellent platform for discussion.

The EU said it would like to continue this type of engagement with a state-civil society dialogue event in autumn 2017. The EU Country Roadmap for Engagement with Civil Society 2015 – 2017 will be revised.

The revision is aimed to measure the impact of the existing roadmap, assess progress made and define follow-up actions for the period 2018 to 2020.

All CSOs, international NGOs, government counterparts and other relevant actors were asked to become part of the open consultation process.
